YOP – year 8 – week 37

This week has been a making week of socks. The Aster cardigan has had it’s seams added as directed in this tutorial HERE (I’m sorry I realised I forgot to link it again last week!) but still sits waiting patiently to be blocked. This week has been busy and by the time I’ve reached my projects I’ve really just wanted to pick up my needles and knit and that’s on the evenings where I’ve not been too tired. On those too tired evenings I’ve picked up my book and I’ve been reading.

So as I said the making time has gone into socks. I had just turned the heel on Evelyn’s first shortie sock last week. They are now complete and here is a picture of her wearing them. I did speak more about them on my latest podcast which is HERE.

Evelyns Sock

I also finished my Hollyburn skirt and here is a modelled picture Becki for you. Again it was spoken about in greater detail on the podcast but I did enjoy the make and learned some new to me techniques. The only thing about this skirt is I’m not sure if this is a style of skirt that suits my shape, which says nothing about the pattern which was brilliant but says more about me and picking items that suit my style and shape.

Hollyburn

So will all these projects finished I cast on a pair of Laurel Socks from the Toe-Up Socks For Everybody that I’m knitting out of this year. I’m using an Eden Cottage Yarn Tempo 4ply Yarn in the Woodland Colourway. I’m enjoying this knit and nearly finished working the gusset increases and I’ve planned to spend the remainder of the weekend enjoying knitting on them and catching up on some podcasts.

Laurel Socks

What project I’ll work on next I’ve not decided. It may be another pair of socks or another garment. I am just undecided which garment I want to complete next. I am planning to make a Cuff Top off my make nine sewing list next so perhaps by the time the socks and it is done I’ll have decided on the next project.

My list is now looking like this;

    1. I know right, pockets are essential to my mind in clothing…where else do you put stuff lol! Thank you I do love the Bentley. She’s been wearing those socks from I returned them to her!

  1. I like the skirt on you and it goes great with your cardigan. I never wear skirts, probably because they don’t usually have pockets. I have one skirt that sometimes comes out Christmas Day and is a size too big and after Christmas dinner it fits 😂. You are doing so well on your list, only a few knitted items left!

    1. See now I can get behind a skirt like that Liz and thank you! I love wearing skirts which I didn’t think I would until I started sewing them. I’m pleased with the list having only 3 knitted garments left on it. Now just to decide which one to make next!

  2. I’m so glad you linked to the blog post about seaming a seamless sweater. I can’t imagine ever knitting a sweater, but I found the information interesting and have saved the link – ‘cuz, you know… who KNOWS?!? The shorty socks are so cute, and oh Ruth… you look terrific in your Bentley cardigan and Hollyburn skirt. I think the whole outfit looks great – love the boots with the skirt. And what a beautiful entryway.. Is that the front door of you house? I’m in awe. Beautiful you, beautiful photo.

    1. I’m sorry I kept forgetting to link to the article because it is really helpful Becki and you just never know! My daughter just loves those socks and has not taken them off from I gave them to her. Thank you, I love the bright zingy green of the Bentley with the grey linen, it’s a favourite combo of mine and yes that is my front door entryway, I love it also !

  3. The shortie socks are so cute! You look cute in that skirt…is it denim? Maybe try a lighter fabric….wouldn’t a flowered fabric that picks up the colors in your sweater be sweet for Spring? Those socks are beautiful…what a gorgeous pattern.
    BTW…thank you for confirming the stitch count as being accurate on my toe up socks….you are not going to believe this but I was counting the stitches on the 2 needles and forgot about the ones hanging out on the cable! OM! I think I have old-timers disease! I am so happy though! Thank you again!

    1. Thank you Sam, it’s a grey linen material.
      I’m glad I could help with the sock conundrum and the only way I knew what had likely happened was that I had made a similar error so it happens to us all I think!
