YOP – year 8 – week 35

I’ve made steady progress this past week on my Aster cardigan. The ties I was working on last week have been attached and the first sleeve is now complete. The Aster cardigan is a design by Marie Amelie Designs. Later on today I’m going to pick up stitches for the second sleeve and make a start on it. All going well I do hope to have the cardigan off the needles by the end of the week. Whether it is blocked or not, is another story. When this does come off the needles I’m going to be adding seams to it. Seams add a little stability and structure to a garment and I came across a blog post HERE about how to add seams to a seamless garment. I’m going to give this a go with the sides and arms of the Aster cardigan and see how I like the technique and whether indeed it adds any structure to this cardigan.

I have made progress on my Hollyburn skirt. The skirt fronts and backs are now complete with the pockets added. As soon as this post is written I’m headed back to the machine to add the waistband and then I’m going to be adding some lining to it. After that all that remains is to insert the zip and finish off the hem.

As these projects are getting to the end it’s time to start thinking about what next to cast on and sew. I think some socks for knitting so I can keep on top of my box of socks challenge. For sewing I’m going to take a look at my make 9 and see what grabs my attention. There is also the Betty Dress from SewOverIt that I’d really love to have for my birthday in April. I had been thinking I’d like a version of this for my daughters communion in May but it might be best to try it out first as a birthday garment and see how I like it.

So all that remains this week is the list and the links to other YOPers who you should definitely check out!

  1. The sweater is amazing!!!! What a great color. Let us know how the seaming goes. I have never heard of that before. The dress pattern is very pretty. How I wish I had a waist again to wear clothes like that. Even at my ideal weight, my waist has seemed to gone on vacation!.

  2. Aster is looking GOOD! I’m really curious about the seaming. The Betty Dress is so pretty and fun. I was thinking similarly to Marsha above when I saw it. Oh to have a waist and pretty legs again. Enjoy!

  3. Aster is looking fine! Love the colour and love the idea of adding seams. I’m looking forward to seeing the hollyburn skirt having seen the sneak peaks!
