YOP – year 8 – week 34

Back this week with an update. The last two weeks have been eventful with children sick with bugs and my Uncle passed away towards the end of last week. I spent some time with my cousins, they were the first ones with us after my Mum passed and then we had the wake and funeral over last weekend. It’s a life changing for them and I’m all too aware of what they are experiencing. With all that life stuff happening making time was time snatched here and there when needed.

I did get the buttons sewed onto my Coloring cardigan by Katrin Schneider. This is the first item off my make nine list for this year and has been waiting for these buttons for a couple of weeks…oh well, at least it has them now. I will model it on the next episode of my podcast, which I’ll be recording this week, for anyone who wants to see it worn.

Coloring

My Aster cardigan by Marie Amelie Designs is the only project on the needles and the one I’ve been picking up and down as time has allowed this week. Last time I spoke about this I had joined the whole piece under the arms and had begun to work some of the body. The body is now worked and I’m in the process of attaching the tie at the bottom of the body. All that remains after that is the sleeves so this garment is moving along nicely.

Aster

I’ve not started February’s socks for my box of socks yet. The plan is that once the Aster is done, I’ll cast those on, I think they may run into March with February being a short month and all it’s happenings but I’m still enjoying being a monogamous knitter and have no wish to cast on a second project until what I’m working on is complete.

I did find a little time to cut out my Hollyburn skirt and that’s as far as I got as my daughter came down with a mild dose of the flu and was miserable for most of this week with it and a spiking temperature. But the pieces have been cut, progress has been made and this week I’m hoping to get back to it.

The list lies pretty much unchanged from the last post, with the exception of starting the Hollyburn skirt.

    1. Thank you and really I am only a very beginner sewer but I am enjoying it and working towards a me made wardrobe is motivation to keep trying and learning with each project.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your uncle. I look forward to seeing your vlog when it’s recorded, but sitting neatly folded it looks brilliant. I can’t believe how fast Aster is coming on, seems only a few weeks since you had it as a thought, now it’s nearly finished. So far it looks great.

    1. Thank you and yes Aster seems to be flying along, it’s been interesting and yet parts of it have seemed like a lot of work to slog through, that may be more due to what’s going on around though. I started it on Jan 27th so all in all, it’s coming along really nicely.

  2. I am so sorry about your Uncle. Prayers for all. The sweater looks right smart with the buttons on it. Will be watching for the podcast to see it modeled. You have made nice progress on Aster. Even with all the extra time grabbing events going on. Hopefully your daughter is back to her normal self and no one else caught the bug.

  4. Ruth, I’m sorry to hear about your Uncle passing and that you have been dealing with children’s sicknesses as well. Your Coloring Cardigan is beautiful and I look forward to seeing it modeled next week! 🙂

  5. I am so sorry about your Uncle but also your Mother. I had no idea she had passed…where have I been? Those losses of those we hold so dearly are never really gotten over but they do soften with good memories. There are still times, especially as I age that I am brought to tears for missing them.
Also, how did I miss that you have a podcast? I swear I must be slipping in my old age! I can’t wait to curl up in bed, grab my handwork and catch up with you! I’m so excited to actually sort of meet you in person after all these years! Your knitting inspires me and I can’t give it up because when I see the beautiful things you make it spurs me on! I love the coloring sweater! It turned out so pretty in those colors. Sorry I am so late this week…..tiptoeing around the weather here!
