This week has been a whirlwind of course classes, meeting and parent teacher meetings. This has meant that knitting time, as that was the only crafting I got to do this week, was limited. I started the first sleeve on The Bentley cardigan one evening but got so tired after half an hour into picking it up that I just had to put it aside and head to bed. So I haven’t really made enough progress on it to show you anything. Yesterday when I was free, I had course work and assignments to prepare so when it did come to knitting time I really only felt like working on socks, so the Cumulus blouse hasn’t seen any work on it this week either.
So really all I’ve picked up and worked on has been socks.
I did complete the first Bouquet Sock. I really enjoyed this pattern and although each row was a pattern row to some extent it really became very potato chippy.
I have been dipping back in and out to the Sock Knitters Anonymous group and I know I originally said I didn’t want to participate this month with the featured theme of Mosaic or slipped stitch colourwork, but I came across the Triwizard Tournament Socks and really felt like joining in with this months challenge. So a bit of a stash dive happened and I came up with three Schoppel Wolle Admiral 4ply colours and with my free time yesterday I cast on and began the sock. I did decide to modify them to knit them toe up and the pattern tells you to work the pattern on the sole of the sock, which I don’t normally do but for these I am, so it remains to be seen if this is a feature I like. This is the progress from yesterday.
I’ve been thinking about the third pair of socks I’ve cast on and left to one side in favour of both of these new socks and I’m just not excited enough about them. I think for now ,I’ll leave them but if I still don’t feel like knitting on them once both these pairs of socks are done I’m going to frog them and use the yarn for something I do want to knit on.

Oh wow, that bouquet sock looks beautiful! And the mosaic sock locks interesting as well. I am always a little afraid that the pattern could be too stiff for a sock – what is your experience so far?

Thank you Domic, as for the slipped stitch sock, it is a little stiff and the pattern condenses so you have to knit more rows the biggest thing will be to judge the increases for the gusset just right so I end up with a sock the right length. Knitting them toe up and wanting to use my preferred heel flap and gusset means gauge is definitely my friend.

Your Bouguet Socks are so pretty. Love the pattern repeats you did. The Mosaic socks look a bit fiddly. Are they? Hopefully your week will be a bit slower so you aren’t completely wiped out.

I love how the bouquet sock turned out also Marsha and the slipped stitch sock is fiddly but not too much, you still only use one colour per row. The next couple of weeks are going to be a big full on, I’m not expecting a slower pace until at least the first if not the second week of December.

That Bouquet sock is beautiful. But I’m afraid you’ve got me on saying it was potato chipy. My first thought was “ripples”. And then I thought maybe you meant like Lays potato chips… “you can’t eat just one”… can’t knit just one row… ??? I’m trying! Is this a British saying? 🙂

That’s exactly what I meant, you can’t just eat one or in this case knit one row Becki. Not even sure where the saying originates from, definitely don’t think it’s Irish 😉

The bouquet socks are gorgeous, what a beautiful colour. And I love the look of the mosaic socks. I am very much into fairly plain socks at the moment, but can admire others!

I suspect these slipped stitched socks Lucy are going to be the only pair for quite awhile. I’ve realised I much prefer a simpler plainer sock, in just one yarn.

I commented and it would take it so I will make this short and sweet! Love those socks!

The Bouquet sock looks lovely. Why oh why do you have to tempt me with another lovely sock pattern? 😉 As for the mosaic socks, better you than me. I can do stranded quite well but mosaic just looks horrible when I do it. I know it’s a question of practice but I can’t bring myself to try it again. You are so brave to be working with three colours.

Thank you Ella and I think I can safely say that this will be the last time I’ll work on slipped stitch socks. I’m not a fan of them really.
