I have been enjoying knitting on my Lichen sweater a lot this week. The mindful stockinette mixed with the interest of the cables has made this such a pleasing project to date. I’m at the point of working the slight A-Line shape that happens to the body, so it’s relatively straight forward.
Last Sunday I finished the leg of #1 sock while at the lake with the children. I cast on the second sock immediately after and I’m on the leg of it now, later today I’ll finish that off. Then I’ll decide what sock to cast on next, I will have lots of this Mondim left over for a second pair of the slightly shorter socks, so who knows.
I’ve unpicked the bind off of my Fintry cardigan ready for me to rework the math this week to add another section to it. The weather has turned a lot cooler here so the need to take the knitwear out is growing. I guess this is the spur to get it finally finished.
On my top I got as far as taking the fabric out and reading through the instructions. There are a couple of things I’m a little unsure of but hopefully once I begin I’ll be able to work them out. I’m hoping to make a version of the bottom pic (pink one). I’m hoping I’ll be able to cut out the pieces this week but with back to school kicking in, who knows.
College offers came out last Monday morning and James got his first choice, English Studies. It’s been a manic week getting things set up and sorted for him and could be why time wasn’t found for cutting out my top, but it’s exciting for him so who minds! We will be dropping him to his accommodation this Friday morning, after the younger children head off back to school too, where he has a weekend of activities getting to know his room mates and all about his campus accommodation. Then he begins freshers week on the 3rd. The other older children head back on Wednesday so it looks like it’s going to be another busy week!

Congatulations to James! How exciting for him.
Your sweater is coming along quie nicely. The blouse pattern is very pretty and I love the style of the pink one. That red material will be wonderful with it.
Socks moved right along this week too.

Love the sweater and your yarn. You knit so beautifully! Do you alternate skeins of your yarn for the sweater? You’re on the leg and you’ll finish it later today? You are fast! So happy for James! What an accomplishment….you all must be so proud. I love the sock yarn too and your top is going to be so cute! I love that style. Lucky you with cooler temps…still very hot here. You will have a busy week but enjoy!

Thank you Sam! With this sweater I am alernating skeins as there was a slight colour difference between some of the skeins, so alternating I’m pleased to say has meant it hasn’t stripped and I’ve not ended up with a line where the colour would have changed. These socks are slightly shorter than normal as I want them to fit inside some ankle boots so that might be why they are knitting up so quick, I also only have two knitted projects on the go. We are incredibly proud of him and his achievement!

You know… I think I was so focused on your pretty speckled yarn last week I didn’t even notice the cables in your Lichen sweater. They are really, really pretty. That is going to be a very special sweater when you’re finished. How exciting sending your oldest off to college. I remember it like was yesterday, though it was just over a decade ago for me already. And this past spring my youngest graduated from college. Sigh. I hope you have a great week, Ruth!

The cables are pretty aren’t they! I love how they are working up and you are right, it’s going to be such a great jumper when done! It’s such an exciting time for him in his life and I can’t quite believe we are that far already!

Wow, so much accomplishment at your house this week! Congratulations to James, it all sounds very exciting. That’s an amazingly short time between finding out where you’re accepted and starting! (We’re in the States, and my daughter found out before Christmas and didn’t have to make her decision until May 1.) Your Lichen sweater is stunning and your socks are flying off the needles it seems. Can’t wait to see the top sewn up — that red material looks perfect for it!

Yes it’s quite different here and my US friend have been marvelling at the differences between both counties with our children the same age and at the same stage. Thank you!
